Blogger Problems & Followers

There have been some problems on Blogger since last night as myself and other bloggers couldn't get access to our blogs or view them. I was able to figure out a solution after getting onto the blogger help group. It seems that the Followers widget is the problem and if you delete that. your blog will work. Well, sadly, I deleted my Followers widget and I had over 100 followers. My blog works now but I lost all of my followers through blogger. If you followed me through blogger please follow me now through google reader or any other reader. Personally, I rarely if ever used the blogger following feature myself even though I had it set to follow through blogger. I mainly use google reader to follow and read blogs. Which ways do you use to follow blogs and which ones do you think are most useful? Will it be a problem for you not to be able to follow my blog through blogger? Thanks for sharing your thoughts...I appreciate your comments very much.

  1. I was having this problem last night as well, but this morning everything is working ok. If anyone else is having this problem, I'd recommend riding it out a couple days before deleting followers.

  2. Sorry about your problems with the widget. But I think all of your followers should still exist, I don't think they are tied to the widget. The only reason I say that is because I follow blogs that don't even have the widget by manually adding them to the blogs I follow on the Dashboard. I think if you check your dashboard, you should still see that the followers are there... I hope that's the case!

  4. I do use the following feature but I don't have the widget on my blog. I have so few followers through blogger itself that it seemed pointless to me to add the widget.

Lately I have been using Google Reader to read everything though.

  5. Previously the Follow me featured lead us to google reader. Now it doesn't. I follw blogs by subscribing through google reader. I find it much more practical and easy. Folw me is more for show, I think.

I have subscribed to more than 300 bloggers on my reader.

  6. Also, I follow you publicly (always have) and your post came through for me in blogger and google reader so I think you just lost the widget.

  7. Thanks everyone for the comments.

I did delete the follower widget and that made the difference to get my blog working.

Melissa-I think that you're right. I'm glad that I didn't delete the followers. I can't see the followers on my dashboard for some reason but I realize that it was just the widget to view who follows.

Ti-Thanks for that info. I can't see who is following me on blogger but that's okay. If the widget is causing my blog not to work, it's not worth the hassle.

Guatami-I think you're right about the widget. There is no real purpose except for show. I'm not going to add it back and can use the room on my sidebar for other things!

  8. I was using a reader before Google introduced the follower feature, so it seemed redundant to have both. Then I moved The Meet and Greet off Blogger (with Win a Book soon to follow) and ... you're coming in loud and clear in my reader. Always have.

  9. Google reader seems so much better than the blogger follower system. I like that it is in a big window and easy to access. Blogger's is okay, but seems like people are having too many problems with it.

  11. I was just going to say I had to delete my widget a few months ago and the followers are still there just not displayed. :) I'm glad you noticed that, too!

  12. I don't follow any book bloggers. I use Google Reader to read all my blogs, including the ones I do follow. I follow blogs that look good but I'm new to and then if I keep liking their posts I officially subscribe to them. I also follow some blogs because being a follower lets me get another entry into their giveaways. Finally I follow some blogs because they agreed to follow me in return to up our counts.

  13. Aren't the followers still there just not visible through the widget? I'm not sure I understand.

Personally, I don't get the point of following. I don't follow anyone and I've noticed that the majority of my followers aren't even people who leave comments on my blog. Not sure why they're following me! :) I use Google Reader and love it. I get behind (SOOOO behind), but it's the best way for me to keep up.

  14. This is all very interesting as I also experienced problems for awhile there last week! Now I know what the problem probably was thanks.

I am tempted to delete it too, I also feel it's for show and it was kind of pushed on us all when it launched.
