  9. While in Nursing School, the state decided to close all the state Nursing Progams. The school supplied the buses and all the students marched in protest at the state capitol in Albany, NY! The fact that it was winter and below freezing made no difference! As a group of women trying earn our degrees in Nursing we braved the elements, walking for hours in our crisp white uniforms, stocking, shoes, caps and navy blue caps~we united as one and I felt an empowerment I have not experienced before~I AM WOMAN HEAR ME ROAR!! I realized I had a voice and could use it to move mountains!

  14. hey bonnie! congrats on your first giveaway... do enter me for it.. and i like the idea of the question.. it makes the giveaway entries so much more personal.. more than just a "count me in!" kinda thing..:)
well, my friends and i did something small to help another girl we went to school with in India. She was having issues with depression and stuff and topics like that aren't really well received in India..(Atleast not until 4 yrs ago..things are chaning now i guess).. people just don't understand it! so we went about creating an awareness for mental illness in general and depression in particular.. one small step to help those suffering.
I don't think it is much.. but it is a little something that i could share:)

A friend and I together worked our butts off to save a forest near our college from being cut down to build another building. We weren't successful, but it was the first time we challenged he establishment and we learned a lot from it.

When I was in Japan, most of the university library was closed off to everyone but graduate students. My two good female friends and I campaigned to be allowed to enter the "secret" parts of the library and we suceeded.

  52. For my extra entries I have stood up in a group of women and shared my views about something. It was actually they were talking about someone i knew and were saying how over protective they thought she was of her child and how her child would never be able to do anything and etc.. and finally after i heard enough about them criticizing her i ask the main gossiper would she still be talking about her if you saw her kid smoking dope or would you be saying her mom just let's her do whatever she wants and doesn't even care about her. I told her she needed to keep a eye on what was going on her own back yard and stop looking in other people's (figure of speach)

  53. I'd love to win a copy of this book!

I have two friends that I've known since 4th grade. When we were in college, T got engaged to a guy who was emotionally abusive and had a violent temper. J and I were sure that she was going to end up in a physically abusive relationship, so we refused to be her bridesmaids. She wouldn't speak to us for a year, but then I got a phone call and it was her thanking me, because it caused her to postpone the wedding and she eventually realized that she shouldn't marry him.

  57. this is a great giveaway for your first time giveaway; I came to this conclusion after reading your review.
Upon listening to someone complain constantly about a friend's ways of disciplining her teenage daughter I suggested that she wouldn't do so if she saw what was going on and was in the middle of it, so to speak. The mother seems to have no control or authority and I'd be beside myself personally. I think you need to walk in someone else's shoes before you can criticize.
