Weekend Cooking: Bookify Yourself & Jamie's Food Revolution by Jamie Oliver

Weekend Cooking is hosted by Beth Fish Reads and is open to anyone who has any kind of food-related post to share: Book (novel, nonfiction) reviews, cookbook reviews, movie reviews, recipes, random thoughts, gadgets, fabulous quotations, photographs. If your post is even vaguely foodie, feel free to grab the button and link up anytime over the weekend. To see who else is participating today, click on the button.

Hyperion Books has a fun website called Bookify Yourself! where you can create an avatar to "bookify" yourself and determine "What does your book say about you?" There are a variety of books and characters to choose from and I had fun making my own avatar. Isn't this a great idea? Head over to Bookify Yourself! and creat your own avatar, it's a lot of fun!

I chose the cookbook Jamie's Food Revolution: Rediscover How to Cook Simple, Delicious, Affordable Meals by Jamie Oliver. I liked the concept of this book and it goes along with my goals of cooking healthier food from scratch. I don't have a copy of this cookbook but I plan to pick up a copy. Here's the description from Hyperion

Cooking good food from scratch is a skill that can save you money, keep you healthy, and make you and your family and friends happy. What I’ve tried to do in this book is pick a whole load of meals that we all love to eat and break them down to make them as simple as possible. There are plenty of clear instructions and step-by-step pictures, so whether you’re an accomplished cook or a complete beginner, you’ll be able to enjoy cooking and achieve great results in the kitchen.

This book is inspired by all the people I’ve met who thought they could never and would never learn how to cook. I believe that good home cooking is one of the most essential, fundamental skills that every single person on this planet should have in order to look after themselves, their families, and their friends. This food revolution is all about people learning how to make a recipe, then teaching that recipe to their friends and family . . . if enough people do this, pretty soon everyone will be cooking. So cook something today, then PASS IT ON!

I found a great video at Hyperion which includes a fun video with Jamie cooking on GMA, recipes and links to more recipes on Jamie Oliver's Website
I had to remove the video as it plays automatically so head over to the website and check it out there.

  1. Since I cook from scratch most nights, this book looks made for me. I love Jamie's show, too.

    Great video!

  2. Cooking from scratch has always been important to me-not just healthy but cheaper too! It has been harder to do what with going back to work full time a while back, but I still manage our main dishes from scratch each night--thanks to my crockpot. What a practical cookbook you have shared and I may have to look for it.

  4. I'm probably the last one but, I've never heard of Jaime. I like the sound of his cookbook and he seems so personable from the video. I'm going to have to find him and check him out. Thanks Bonnie.

  8. I've never heard of him before, but I may buy one of his books, it looks like he makes it simple enough, not like other cooks.
